August 2026
Compared with July 2026
August felt like the kind of month where things quietly clicked back into place. I managed 65 activities across just over 43 hours of movement — a mix of 21 runs, 13 HIIT sessions and a frankly absurd 31 walks, which tells you something about how much time I spent padding around in the summer heat pretending that counted as active recovery (it does, I've decided). The running was the real highlight though: 117 kilometres at an average of 5:45 per kilometre, with 8 achievements and 2 PRs thrown in along the way, which suggests the legs are remembering what they're supposed to do. So whilst nobody is mistaking me for a serious athlete any time soon, it genuinely feels like I'm back to where I was before the appendix derailed everything earlier in the year.
Compared to July, the numbers paint a pretty encouraging picture — an extra five activities, 33 more kilometres of running, and the pace dropped by about 11 seconds per kilometre, which doesn't sound like much until you're the one doing it. The elevation on the runs jumped significantly too, from a fairly flat 135 metres in July to 375 metres in August, so either the routes got harder or I stopped avoiding the hills quite so deliberately (probably both). The momentum feels real rather than imagined, which is a dangerous thing to say out loud. So the plan for September is simple enough: carry this forward, stay injury free, and try not to do anything catastrophic on the wakeboard before the season closes — which, knowing me, is perhaps the trickiest part of the whole thing.
